Lexus IS Versus Audi A4
On this page, we’ll be talking about some core differences and similarities between the new Lexus IS and Audi A4 Sedan vehicles. The Lexus starts at a market price of $37,900 and comes in two trims, the IS250 and IS350 which both come with an all-wheel drive model. The A4 starts at $38,500 for the base model, with Komfort plus, Progressiv plus and Technik plus trims available for those looking to upgrade.
At the Core
Starting at the heart of what makes these cars move, let’s look at what’s under the hood.
The 2015 Lexus IS250 comes stock with a 2.5-liter premium V6 six-cylinder engine that puts out 204 horsepower and 184lbs-ft of torque. The IS350 is upgraded with a 3.5-litre V6 six-cylinder block that places an impressive 306 horsepower and 277lb-ft of torque at your fingertips. Both engines use direct fuel injection and variable valve-timing with intelligence (VVT-i). The IS250 comes with a 6-speed super electronically controlled (Super ECT) automatic transmission designed to deliver a sporty and smooth performance. The IS350 takes it up a notch by offering an 8-speed sport direct shift automatic transmission from the acclaimed Lexis IS F, including full torque converter lockup and throttle blips when using manual mode. Both trims come equipped with steering-wheel mounted paddle shifters.
In the new Audi A4 you’ll find a turbocharged 2.0-liter four-cylinder TFSI FronTrak engine, putting out 220 horsepower and a maximum torque of 258lb-ft, making it impressively powerful for its overall size and fuel consumption. The engine comes paired up with an 8-speed multitronic continuously variable transmission transmission, which boasts a wide spread of ratios between the first and eighth gear.
It’s fair to say that today most major automotive manufacturers are doing all they can to make their vehicles as efficient as possible. Looking at the Lexus IS first, it uses on average 9.2 liters of fuel ever 100 kilometers driven, this is combining and average of both highway and city driving. The Audi A4 uses on average 8.4 liters of fuel per 100 kilometers driven using the same combination of highway and city miles.
Wheels and Brake Systems
Starting with the Lexus, the IS comes with 17” aluminum alloy wheels with wheel locks. 18” FSPORT aluminum alloy wheels with FSPORT center wheel ornament are available with the IS350. The IS has front and rear ventilated disc brakes, antilock braking system (ABS), brake assist (BA), electronic brake force distribution (EBD) and comes with larger diameter front ventilated discs with the IS350.
The Audi A4 comes with 17” 10-spoke design wheels with upgrades available up to 18” rims. The A4 has front ventilated disc brakes and rear disc brakes which use an intuitive energy recovery system allowing less energy to be wasted and returned back to the engine.
Technology and Amenities
Both Lexus and Audi are respected names in the world of luxury automobiles, so much effort is put into make the ride as smooth and comfortable as possible, with a huge roster of optional upgrades available to both the IS and the A4.
Standard on the IS you’ll find a leather-wrapped steering wheel audio controls and paddle shifters, dual zone automatic climate control, cabin air filter, rear seat heater ducts, in-dash DVD, Lexus premium audio, am/fm cd with mp3/wma player, audio auxiliary input jack, usb audio input, Bluetooth capability, integrated SiriusXM satellite radio, 8-speaker audio system with Lexus display, powered tinted windows with high solar energy absorbing glass, push button start with smart key system, and to keep the vibes classy inside it uses illuminated entry with a natural fadeout.
The A4 also comes with its own slew of amenities such as bi-xenon headlights with LED drls/tail lights, front fog light with headlight washers, light and rain sensors, glass sunroof, front,side and rear windows made of heat-insulating glass, electronically adjustable and heated front seats, .3-spoke leather-covered multifunction sports steering wheel, adjustable and heated exterior mirrors, deluxe automatic air conditioning with sun sensor, advanced key system with start button, driver infotainment system and Audi music interface and sound system.
Both the Lexus IS and Audi A4 have many luxury upgrade options available for those inclined to go the extra mile with available options.
In today’s automotive market, world-class safety is a no brainer for most manufacturers. Lexus and Audi are no exception to this rule, and in fact both do their best to excel at providing advanced safety features to protect their drivers.
The Lexus IS comes with a full suite of safety features designed to protect all passengers as much as possible. An elaborate airbag system details the interior of the vehicle using a front seat mounted side airbaigs, driver and front passenger knew airbags, front and rear side curtain airbags and driver and passenger supplemental airbag restraint system (SRS). The IS also uses front passenger occupancy classification indicator, front and rear seatbelt pre-tensioners and force limiters, all-position 3-point lap and shoulder belts, adjustable “B” pillar shoulder belt anchors, anchor points for child restraint seats, child protector rear door locks, assist frips and first aid kit.
The Audi A4 offers Audi drive select, dynamic suspension, electronic stabilization program, exhaust tailpipes, front side airbags with head airbags, electromechanical power steering, and seatbelts for all seating positions.
